Carps
The theme given was about animals and the first animal that came up was the fish, and it was too simple to draw the fish alone, so I came up with the Chinese proverb of the carp leaping over the dragon gate plus it's kind of the culture of my hometown. However, the dragon gate was not added to the background later on because the overall look was messy and too many elements were mixed together, so the idea of the dragon gate was dropped.

Series 1
My works tell about a transformation of my culture. By combining both Chinese and Western painting techniques in my painting. My works revolve around the central idea of an ancient poem: 'Lifting Up my head I see the silver moon, bending it down I miss my hometown'. As time goes by, as an international student, I felt that I am also influenced by Singapore's culture thus influencing my origin/culture over time. Due to its history, Singapore has not only been influenced by many eastern cultures, but also is the most westernized country in Asia. As a result, my thoughts will be changed due to different cultural differences, which eventually leads to the loss of my own culture
